Ballista

X-Bow Designing Event
FootPrints presents BALLISTA. A one of a kind event first time introduced in the history of technical events. All you need to do is strike a balance between power, stability and accuracy.

Problem Statement

It is an event in which participants will have to design an X-bow using elastic, torsional or any other mechanism capable of hitting a given target with variable height and distance.
  • The teams must report at the time allocated to them.
  • Participants must place their mechanism before the given line and begin shooting when the signal is given.
  • In case of a false start more than couple of times the participant will be disqualified.
  • Precautions regarding the operating of the mechanism is the responsibility of the participant. It shouldn’t be hazardous.
  • If the machine develops a serious malfunction, a reasonable amount of time for repairs may be allotted. The time allotted will be decided on the spot by the event organizers.
  • If the machine damages the arena then that team will be disqualified from the competition.
  • The mechanism which may break down or disintegrate in their on-going trial will be disqualified pertaining to that trial.
  • The team must adhere to good behaviour and spirit of competition. Any team not following that will be eliminated.
  • Judges’ decision is final and abiding to all.
  • In case of any dispute or discrepancies, all rights would be reserved with the Core committee of Footprints X6.
  • Teams which are not satisfying any of the rule will be given a penalty.
    • The mechanism should be designed within a dimension of 70 cm x 70 cm (Top view).
    • The height of the mechanism should not be more than 50cm in closed state.
    • No restriction on the type of spring or string to be used. Mechanism can be torsional, elastic or any other feasible mechanism.
    • The mechanism should have an ability to change height as well as it should be able to hit targets at far and close distance.
    • The participants can add a counter weight in the mechanism to provide stability to it.
    • Only 2 participants are allowed in the arena where the mechanism is to be placed.
    • The minimum range of the ballista should be 8m.
    • No constraint on the material used. It can steel, wood or anything.
    • A trigger mechanism compulsory.
      Round 1:
    • The participants will be given a target with concentric circles and will be awarded points as per the circle they hit.
    • The centre of concentric circle is at a height of 2.5m (Variable Horizontally)
    • The innermost circle will carry maximum points.
    • Round 2 and 3:
    • Will be revealed on the day of the event.
    • The arrow must be of wooden material.
    • The dimensions of the arrow should be 40cm in length and 1cm in diameter(Maximum).
    • The participant should bring extra arrows in case of any damage.
    • The participant can add fins for providing better aerodynamics to get better accuracy.
