Inherited Dreams: Too Good to be True.

Inherited Dreams: Too Good to be True.

Scientists have long assumed that memories and learned experiences built up during a lifetime must be passed on by teaching later generations or through personal experience.

However, new research has shown that it is possible for some information to be inherited biologically through chemical changes that occur in DNA.Our life experiences may be passed on to our children and our children's children - and now scientists report that they have discovered that this inheritance can be turned on or off.Isn't it mind boggling?

In medical science, Epigenetics is the study of inherited changes in gene expression…changes that are inherited, but they are not inherent to our DNA. For instance, life experiences, which aren’t directly coded in human DNA, can actually be passed on to children. Studies have shown that survivors of traumatic events may have effects in subsequent generations.

The question, of course, is how are these genetic “memories” passed on?

Google Driverless Car

Google Driverless Car

Fifteen years back, if you had to withdraw cash, you had to travel far to a bank and stand in a line with a slip to withdraw cash. But lately, the same is being done even in remote locations by machines without any hassle. In the industries, most of the heavy machinery is automated allowing for more accurate and speedier production. Automation is a growing trend in the present era. It is truly an engineering marvel since it involves a union of the different branches of engineering like computer science, electronics and mechanical to devise this technology. Electronic sensors sense the surroundings and send their response to microcontrollers which are programmed to give a desired response and actuators which actually carry out the response actions.

Driving a car is an art, maybe that’s why the government waits until you’re 18 years old to give you chance to earn a driver’s license. Not only should you be able to direct the car, but also have a keen sense of safety. Nevertheless, all the rules and regulations enforced to ensure safety fail to eradicate the occurrence of accidents. Therefore driving a car requires good understanding and experience of the working of a car. But what if a team of brilliant engineers devised a way to automate this complicated process?

Inside the Mind of Master Procrastinator

Inside the Mind of Master Procrastinator

At the end of every semester, we all start digging our tunnel in order to escape from our biggest nightmare known as exams.

30 days from exam, most of us start working on plans to tackle all the course and try to distribute work evenly to each day ahead. Yet somehow we have to replan our strategy 20 days before as the TV Series recommended by a friend, suddenly becomes way more interesting.

Rationality-0 Gratification -1

10 days before exams, we were again ready with a revised plan. But wait, we discovered Youtube videos became highly intriguing and also found new love for Astronomy.

Rationality -1 Gratification -5

2 days before exams, we had reach a point where a video of Justin Beiber's mother interview is also appetizing.

Rationality -10 Gratification -100

A night before exam, this is when our rationality regains its power and hits us with an unstoppable force.

Rationality -1 Gratification -0

Do you ever wonder why this happens to us?

Let me take you to a tour inside the mind of master procrastinator.

Does sarcasm and intelligence go hand in hand?

Does sarcasm and intelligence go hand in hand?

Ever got congratulated for breaking any item by your parents? Ever got thanked for reaching late? Ever got rewarded for submitting your work late? Yes, you got it right Sherlock, I am taking about sarcasm. Ever got referred as Sherlock, for stating the obvious? ;)

Now, recall your one friend who more or less has only one emotion which is disgust and more often replies sarcastically to almost all questions. Though most of the times replies are considered to be the wittiest. Would you consider him intelligent, smart or profound by any chance? Do you think sarcasm and intelligence go hand in hand?

Yes, finally coming on to the point, let's try to understand the dynamics of sarcasm with intelligence! Sarcasm always shared a bitter sweet relationship with Intelligence. Sarcasm also shares a thin boundary with cynicism and insults, while intelligence owes its definition to people's perceptions, both living an unambiguous life. Intelligence is considered to be simplicity in complexity, while sarcasm is an unique way of presenting an idea comprising a flow of complexity. Sarcasm can take a simple notion to complex implications! Sarcasm is an angel disguised as a devil...

Automated vs autonomous

Automated vs autonomous

You might have heard that Google, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and reportedly Apple - are all working on autonomous-driving technology. A driverless car is what they all are targeting and this gives you an clear idea of how autonomous cars differs from automated cars.

Autonomous is not only performing one or more task automatically, but referring to a device, system or entity that performs decision making independent of a larger device, system or entity. For example, there are two remote controlled cars. Both have automatic functions (use automation) But one is tethered with a human operator control like xbox, the other has on board microprocessor and makes all decisions by itself, (autonomously). Another non-industrial control, but yet still an example for our industry, is autonomous maintenance.

Automated vs autonomous is just as mechatronics vs robotics. The main difference is inputs are "provided" to mechatronics systems whereas robotics systems "acquire" inputs by their own.

What makes you, you?

What makes you, you?

Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive,Who is 'youer' than you.

The whole concept of 'you' is very vague. Your parents can't love you before you were born, because they don't know you. They just love the idea of having you. Similarly nobody can never know 'you', they can just know your body, thoughts which you share with them, your actions, etc. All these are just ideas, not 'you'. By all this information they get about you, they'd form an idea of 'you' in their minds and they name that idea as 'you', just like a 'phone', 'television' or 'laptop'. This is why so many people are emotionally attached to fictional characters, because we don't like/hate a person, we just like/hate the idea of a person. Since soaps/movies clearly bring those ideas of a character to us, we can emotionally bond with them as we bond with non-fictional characters
